Juha Lehtola starts shooting “The Human Part” inspired by Kari Hotakainen’s bestselling novel

Writer-director Juha Lehtola has started shooting his second feature film, The Human Part. The comedy-drama is inspired by the bestselling novel with the same name written by Kari Hotakainen.

The shooting will continue until mid-December in Uusimaa area. The Finnish premiere will be in the Christmas time in 2018. The film will star beloved Finnish actors Hannu-Pekka Björkman, Kari Hietalahti, Ria Kataja, Asko Sarkola, Armi Toivanen and Leena Uotila as well as Della McLoud and Nicole Stiles.

The Human Part tells a story from a northern country called Finland, where the money is gone, the family is torn apart, and thus a brilliant impostor is born, who will have to bring his family together and make it stronger than ever. The film is shot by the awarded cinematographer J-P Passi, who also shot the most successful Finnish film from last year, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki. Set design is by Otso Linnalaakso, editing by Samu Heikkilä and sound design by Karri Niinivaara. Costume design is by Roosa Marttiini and make-up design by Pia Mikkonen.

The film is written by Juha Lehtola and Kari Hotakainen. Hotakainen’s successful novel (2009) has been translated to 10 languages and has also been awarded with the Prix Courrier International award in France as the best translated book.

The Human Part is co-produced by Timo Lahtinen from the Danish Smile Entertainment and local distribution is handled by B-Plan Distribution. The film is funded by The Finnish Film Foundation and done in co-production with Yle.
